I agree with your assessment of See's arguments. We should be focusing on how to use the technology, not just acquiring the latest and greatest. Overall vision is one of the most important parts of a technology plan, and one year of incorrect application of funds can set a district back years in terms of development.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your distinction between long term and short term technology planning. As you say, long term planning should be geared more toward outcomes, whereas short term planning should focus on the actual technology itself. Also, I find myself in a situation similar to yours. The administration at my school does not understand the many opportunities that technology offers both teachers and students. And instead of the disconnect being between the district and the administration, the disconnect in my school is between the administration, and the director of technology and board of trustees. As a result, there is no mandate coming from the administration for us to integrate new technologies into our curriculum.
